Who is MAT 213

Mat213, real name Matěj Čech (born 1998), is a Prague singer-songwriter, rapper and visual artist whom the media call a “digital singer-songwriter”. He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and is the son of director Michael Čech and the grandson of musician František Ringo Čech. He started out more experimentally: he played in the English-language band See You, Inside and shared his first solo recordings on YouTube and Bandcamp.

The turning point came with the EP SS/22 (2022) and the summer hit “7teen”, which won him the Apollo Award for Single of the Year 2022; the same year, the Vinyla awards also named him Discovery of the Year. It was followed by the albums Party in Prague (2023), Nesu oheň (2024) and Retroskepse (2026). On the latest of these he takes stock of growing up, burnout and nostalgia, with guests including Lajfr, Rohony, Gufrau, Victor Kal and Marie April.

His pop-rap songs mix the “low” culture of football, marketing and the internet with personal testimony, always with a wink. He is a Slavia fan: he wrote a song about the club's player Christos Zafeiris and worked with the club on the track “PEAK”. He works closely with the trio Gufrau, with whom he released the joint EP Gufrau213, and in 2026 he turned heads with the video “NEPO” featuring Franta Prachař and Anna Mercedes.
