Who is Kontrafakt

Kontrafakt is a Slovak hip hop trio from Piešťany, founded in 2001 by rappers Rytmus and Ego together with DJ and producer Anys. They released their first single, “Dáva mi”, in 2003 on the label of the Czech magazine BBaRáK, and after the album E.R.A. (2004) they joined the best-known names in Slovak hip hop.

The record Bozk na rozlúčku (2007) was followed by a longer break, during which Rytmus released solo albums and also became a well-known TV face as a judge on talent shows. Their comeback with the album Navždy (2013) was a big success in both Slovakia and the Czech Republic – according to the Slovak collecting society SOZA, it was the best-selling album of 2013 in Slovakia. The record Real Newz (2019) brought in the younger generation, including Viktor Sheen, Calin, Dalyb, Zayo and Dokkeytino, and the video for “Ideme dnu” was nominated at the Berlin Music Video Awards. For the group's 20th anniversary, the album KF ako Rolls and the documentary The Most Legendary came out in 2021.

After a concert hiatus of several years, the trio returned in September 2023 with the big show Kontrafakt New Era at Prague's O2 arena, complete with a giant LED wall and pyrotechnics. The preparations were captured in the documentary Kontrafakt NEW ERA: Cesta do O2 areny. The group has hundreds of concerts and five studio albums behind it, and Rytmus continues to release solo work too – his album Bengoro II came out in 2023.
