Who is Refew

Refew, real name Erik Gábor, grew up in Palmovka in Prague's Libeň district. He talks about his youth with unusual openness: he ran with a street gang, ended up on the street at a young age, and in his own words, music is what saved his life. His name came from the feeling that he didn't quite belong anywhere – he felt like a refugee.

He has been on the scene since around 2014. His discography includes the albums Ofiko (2016), O tři bloky dál (2017), Pět růží (2019), 777 (2020), Jednou ti koupim dům mámo (“One day I'll buy you a house, Mum”, 2021), Těší mě, Refew (2023) and Mindset (2024). Rather than bragging, he prefers social themes and his own stories; alongside rapping, he sings, writes lyrics and produces music for himself and other artists. He has worked with Slovak rappers Kali and Rytmus, as well as with Jaroslav Oláh and Marpo, among others.

To mark ten years on the scene, in November 2024 he launched the album Mindset with a concert at Forum Karlín featuring a live band and an audiovisual show, and in February 2026 he performed at Prague's O2 universum. Outside music he boxes, which in his words also helps his mental health, and together with Natálie Kočendová he created the podcast Tělo na tělo.
