Who is Michal Hrůza

Michal Hrůza is a singer, guitarist, composer and lyricist from Turnov who has been helping shape the Czech pop-rock scene since the 1990s. In 1996 he founded the band Ready Kirken, with whom he recorded five albums and for whom he wrote more than fifty songs. He has also made his mark as a songwriter beyond his own band – his Voda živá, performed by Aneta Langerová, was one of the biggest hits of 2005 and 2006.

Since 2006 he has performed with Kapela Hrůzy and released the albums Bílá velryba (2007), Napořád (2009), Noc (2012), Den (2014), Sám se sebou (2017), Světlo do tmy (2020) and Kouzlo samoty (2025). The album Den won him the Anděl Award for Male Singer of the Year. His most-played songs include Zakázané uvolnění, Napořád and Budu ti vyprávět; on the album Sám se sebou he recorded duets with Lenka Dusilová, Aneta Langerová, Katka Knechtová and Klára Vytisková.

Hrůza is also a sought-after composer of film and TV music. He contributed to the films Lidice, Martin a Venuše, Padesátka, Pohádky pro Emu and Špunti na vodě, and composed the theme tunes for the series Vyprávěj and Mazalové. His live incarnation is captured on the 2018 live album V Rudolfinu.
